“Where are you from?”

This is a question that we are continually being asked, by restaurant staff, as well as taxi and Uber drivers. 

Once we say “Australia” they are not only relieved but happy to chat. 

I would hate to be a travelling Yank at the moment. 

Their best answer might be “Canada”.
